Welcome to the new JSC website

The design and structure have been updated to meet the changing needs of the JSC and RDA users.

Current content from the previous pages has been included. The URLs of JSC documents have not changed.

Links to static pages on the previous website should still work; please let us know if they do not. The previous site has been preserved in its entirety as of 8 June 2015 and can be accessed through the "Archived JSC Website" option in the left column navigation menu.

All new content will be added to the new JSC website, but not to the archived pages. Please change your bookmarks to ensure that you access the most up to date information from the JSC.

The Joint Steering Committee for Development of RDA (JSC) is responsible for maintaining RDA: Resource Description and Access. JSC was previously responsible for maintenance of the Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules (AACR), which RDA has been developed to replace.

RDA provides a set of guidelines and instructions on formulating data to support resource discovery.  RDA provides a comprehensive set of guidelines and instructions covering all types of content and media.

RDA is published by:

  • The American Library Association
  • The Canadian Library Association
  • CILIP: Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals

RDA is published in English, French, German, and Spanish; several other translations are in progress. For information about translating RDA, contact James Hennelly, ALA Publishing.

The constituent organizations represented on the Joint Steering Committee are:

  • The American Library Association
  • The Australian Committee on Cataloguing
  • The British Library
  • The Canadian Committee on Cataloguing
  • CILIP: Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals
  • Deutsche Nationalbibliothek
  • The Library of Congress

In addition to representatives from these organizations the JSC includes a chair and secretary. The current roster of JSC members can be viewed here.

Proposals for revisions to RDA may be submitted for consideration by the Joint Steering Committee.
